Rakesh Sukesh

Brussels
Choreographer/ performer/ teacher/producer

Rakesh Sukesh, an artistic force bridging Bharat (India) and Belgium, commands the stage as a multifaceted performer, choreographer, teacher, and producer. He draws from his familial roots in yogic philosophy, earning accreditation from the esteemed Shivananda Yoga Centre, and refines his craft in dance through Kalaripayattu and contemporary techniques under masters such as Jaychandran Palazy and Dil Sagar, alongside mentors Katie Duck and David Zambrano.

As a performer, Rakesh has collaborated with renowned troupes, including Ultima Vez under Wim Vandekeybus for the production Infamous Offspring, Roosana & Kenneth Company for the project Prime Mover and Shelter Ouroboros, and Andrea Bol for Down the River, Downtown, and Downhill.
As a choreographer, Rakesh has created numerous productions in India, Europe, and Central America. Some of his notable works include A Dream of Silence (2011), YATRA (a collaboration with Joost Vrouenraets, 2013), Borderland (in collaboration with Eddie Oroyan, 2015), and May Us Bless the I (in collaboration with Francisco Córdova). Currently, Rakesh is touring with his latest production, because I Love the diversity (this micro-attitude we all have it), commissioned by the Push Festival in Vancouver for 2024. Additionally, he is developing a new production titled Monster, in collaboration with Alessia Luna Wyss.

Over a transformative 15-year journey as international teacher, Rakesh has pioneered the Intact Method—an interconnected dance practice that has garnered global acclaim for its fusion of yogic principles, Kalaripayattu, and contemporary dance. Through this method, he has been invited to teach at prestigious organisations and companies such as Impulstanz, Deltebre Dansa, Sidi Larbi Company, Concordia University, PARTS, and Ultima Vez, among others.

Rakesh also has a strong interest in producing art projects. He co-directed the Sanskar International Dance Festival in India and the Sanskar Virtual Festival. Currently, he is co-producing and curating Dance on Screen in Switzerland.

INTACT METHOD

Intact is a training method generated through years of research, observation and adaptation to our current times, while also based on intrinsic human characteristics: breath, movement, emotion, thought, intention, environment. Its main goal lies on enhancing humanness in its most raw and genuine form. This method creates a safe and honest place that embraces and acknowledges our inner world, both weaknesses and strengths, to learn how to use them through reflection and striving for further development. It is an interconnected training system that utilises movement as a base to create, confront and play within crisis. It provides the time- space to get to know one’s personal form and how to use the body to broaden the range of movement vocabulary. As an holistic form, it is inspired by tools from specific lineages, such as breath, meditation and the inner mechanics of yogi principles, while also utilising the movement and philosophies from kalari payatt. This interwoven structure combines and rearranges these tools and ideas in a proposal for a new approach. In these classes, one can expect a dedication to raising awareness to individuality and inner workings, an awakening of the senses that leads to an ability to control and manage external triggers. In other words, taking charge of ones self.
